My son-in-law needs one. He got a job at the K-Mart warehouse in Lawrence. The hours were supposed to be 2-10p.m. and he has to drive 25+ miles one way. Some days he is sent home at 8. One Friday they told him not to come in at all. The kids are worried about what will happen this winter at this rate. And what will happen to the special ed kids I teach? Apparently the tech school won’t let them in because they can’t pass the tests and the jobs they used to be given are being taken by college graduates, like my daughter. GROAN……………..

I am not one for a 20 minute power nap. I either am awake or it is a couple hour nap. Today was a nap day. It wasn’t an especially stressful day today though. I suppose it is just making up for other days.
They say it was in the lower 80s today. I missed most of that. My classroom has no windows. Some designers should have to work in the spaces they create. I can’t grow plants. I can’t open the window to cool the room down. My first classroom had a huge east window with mini blinds. Heat just poured in that room. That school had no air conditioning and a 10 pound block of wax literally bent in the heat one summer.
This weekend, I have a quilt block class on how to do applique. Except for the part where I have to haul my heavy machine in, it should be fun.
I was so happy to get a card saying rug hooking was starting again. My part of the alphabet is supposed to bring in the food. I hope I remember.
I came home with my brain on overload today. Nothing bad happened but I feel like the juggler trying to keep all the balls up in the air and all they want to do is drop. (While I write this, the baby cat is either trying to lick me or bite me. I don’t think he has decided which yet.) I finally had to come home and go to bed as it was just too much.
The weather has finally changed. Sunday the high is only supposed to be in the upper 60s! What a relief that will be. I am so tired of the 80s and 90s.
I have gobs of homework to do. I hope to get some of the boxes unloaded and the other bedroom put in some kind of order. Jim hopes to go to the flea market in Meridan. Hopefully a bit of each will get done.
Literally. This weekend I have scratched, attacked and nibbled on repeatedly. I finally put him in a bedroom and closed the door so I could get some work done. Of course, he then had to scratch the door and cry. “Take a nap!” I say. Don’t try to eat the computer, the computer cord, the phone cord, the electric cords…………..
I worked on my big project for college today. I am tired of having to do so much production and not having any me time. I don’t see much in the future either. There is still painting to finish, here and there. There are boxes to sort and rooms to reassemble. There is the huge project I have to finish for this last class and then the studying for the two big tests to finish this license. I want the painting, hooking, crafting time. I have the daily work at school fairly under control so at least I am not bringing that home.
I talked to a friend of mine yesterday. She had been in the hospital for a week with pulmonary embolisms. How scary! She has to have oxygen around for when she needs it and she is tired now but seems to be recovering.
I think I am going to sell one of my looms. It is a Harrisville Design loom, about 40 inches wide and comes with a bench and some reeds. I plan on asking $600 for it. It will make a good loom for someone. I am also planning on selling one of my PASSAP knitting machines. It is a Duomatic 80 with a motor. I think I will ask $600 for it also. They are both great machines but I need the space in this house. The friend I mentioned in the previous paragraph is giving me her loom which is even larger. I need more space!
Our hardwood floors were finished Thursday. They look so beautiful. It is nerve-racking thinking we might scratch them up but it is like having a new car. You know that eventually there will be a scratch but you like to believe it won’t happen.
Jim took his mom home. I hate to have him gone but I know it is important. So, I am trying to sort some of the boxes we packed up and to find a place for things. It is hard to part with some things. I know that the craft supplies will be used at some time (I hope) so I hate to get rid of them.
Tomorrow I should work on my notebooks for my practicum. I have it started but really am stumped how some of this should look.
The cats are fighting. Shasta is having trouble dealing with the new cat. I managed to get scratched in one of their little tussles. I hope they work this out soon.
Upside- my job is going well. People are helpful and friendly to me.
Downside- my mother-in-law is not well. She is finding it hard to get enough oxygen, is having allergy issues and is feeling down.
Upside- Our new hardwood floors are done in the living room and two bedrooms. The carpenter comes again Monday to finish the trim and the steps to the landing. They look beautiful.
Downside- our neighbor is sick and in the hospital
Upside- I have embroidery club on Saturday. We are embroidering a microwave baked potato bag……….(I guess that is a good thing 🙂
Downside: My daughter is distressed, still, over her husband’s job loss, his former employer sending him an incident report that has to be filed and the refusal of his unemployment. So distressed are they that they are going to see a lawyer tomorrow to make sure they are going to be ok.
Upside- I am taking a block of the month club class at the Fabric Corner called Modern Mix so I can learn more about how to use my machine.
Downside- the cost of the class……….
Upside-Jim went to Nebraska to get a male Siamese kitten as he has been wanting for a while.
Downside- Jim is in Nebraska, where his mother lives and may have to make some decisions about her care.
Upside- I have been making budgets to pay off school loans, etc by next summer.
Downside- I have probably been too aggressive in this plan and haven’t left enough money in it for things like food so it probably have been a waste of time.
Upside- I paid off one of my student loans
Downside- It appears that the student loan company owes me money for over payment and still hasn’t credited it my account.
Upside- the allergy doctor said that my sleep apnea is only a 2 which makes any procedure he would do elective surgery so he wouldn’t push for it.
Downside- the sleep doctor thinks I should consider getting a machine for sleep apnea. He thinks it would help me sleep better through the night. What to do, what to do……..
Upside-Tomorrow is Friday and Sunday we have tickets for Red Green. Hopefully Jim will get to come back so we can go see it.
Downside- It is supposed to be 88 tomorrow. Cool off already.
I am praying for more peaceful times. My brother-in-law lives near Boulder, CO and he is waiting so he can work on clearing roads. I pray the fires end soon. I am praying my mother-in-law will be in better spirits soon. I am praying that the hatred being spread will be quenched. I pray for peace.
I decided it would not be good to get paint on new hardwood floors so I am spending this weekend painting. I have paint on my feet, on my hands, and in my hair. The walls are not finished yet though. It would be nice if it wouldn’t always heat up on the days I decided to paint.
The workmen are coming Tuesday. We will see if everything is done before that.
Last night we were able to open the windows. It was cool and it made for good sleeping weather. I imagine my sinuses will suffer due to this but it was a nice change.
Our new flooring is due to be installed on Tuesday. Hopefully by the weekend, the workers will be done. Jim and Scott have pulled carpeting several days. I usually did boxing in the evenings after work. I told Jim none of the stuff is coming back until we go through it and sort 🙂
Yesterday was a faculty meeting for the co-op. One of my friends got ill so we spent the afternoon with her in the hospital. The tests came back alright though so we took her home. That was a blessing.
This week, Thursday, I am making Rice Krispie Treats with my independent living class. We made smoothies with yogurt and frozen fruit two weeks ago. I wonder what I should make with them next….
